From a young age, Prema has been fascinated by healing touch and natural therapies. Her love for bodywork and holistic health was sparked by her own healing journey, which gave inspiration to be of service to others. Born in Brooklyn, NewYork, Prema moved with her family to Australia as a child - where she grew up in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Coming from a large patchwork family dynamic, she was blessed with the gift of being raised next to the ocean.
A major turning point and awakening happened in Prema’s second trip to India at age 16. Her mother Di felt a strong impulse to take her to Rishikesh “The Yoga Capital of the World” and experience living in an authentic Yogic and Ayurvedic Ashram for 2 weeks. Learning traditional Hatha Yoga and Kirtan, opened up a new journey to unfold.
For multiple years, Prema had the privilege to travel globally following her spiritual thirst and growing devotion to the Heart, unfolding a path dedicated to Love and Truth. Exploring and having extended time in Mother India, Nepal, Mexico, Guatemala, Indonesia and Europe. She’s continually inspired by traditional and cultural practices that enliven spiritual and sacred remembering.
She completed her first 200hr Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, India. Her yogic path deepened when being drawn to Mexico to learn at the Hridaya Yoga and Meditation School, an ashram founded by Sahajananda. Exploring teachings of Self Inquiry inspired by the Advaita Vedantic (Non Dual) Master Ramana Maharshi and traditional Tantric Hatha Yoga. For one year Prema lived immersed in the Ashrams offerings, completing modules 1- 4, both attending and serving in multiple 10 day silent retreats. She was apart of the first 3 month Karma Yoga Immersion Program and completed a 3 month intensive, 500hr (750hr) Hridaya Hatha Yoga and Meditation Teacher Training.
Over the years her sadhana practice of Bhakti Yoga has deepened, going on to learn from both Classical Indian and western music teachers. She has been facilitating and sharing kirtans globally since 2019 starting in Sydney and now based in Byron Shire.
Prema for the last five years has been sitting with her spiritual teacher, Pia Ma, who supports awakening and by a living example shares the teachings of Silence, Awareness and the Sacred Heart. Over the years she has attended various meditation and Satsang retreats with Ma and is deeply grateful to be a part of the sangha and continually goes to her local ashram in the Byron Shire.
Upon returning back to Australia, Prema has committed to studying different bodywork modalities; Craniosacral Therapy, Wombhara Massage , Abhyanga ~ Ayurvedic Oil massage and has trained in being a Sacred Birth and Postpartum Doula as well as undertaking an apprenticeship for continued learning in this field and time of care.
